INTRODUZIONELe vaccinazioni hanno permesso nell'ultimo secolo di modificare radicalmente lo stato di salute delle popolazioni nel mondo. Grazie alla vaccinazione sono stati evitati morti e disabilità. Alcune malattie infettive nel nostro Paese sono completamente scomparse per effetto della vaccinazione, altre sono vicine all'eliminazione. Per raggiungere e mantenere il successo delle vaccinazioni bisogna vaccinare il più alto numero di persone possibile. Senza prestare questa attenzione, riemerge il rischio di alcune malattie. Per le malattie che si trasmettono da persona a persona, le vaccinazioni rappresentano, oltre alla protezione dell'individuo vaccinato, una protezione per l'intera collettività.
